    指揮家杜拉第在Mercury時期的錄音一向是發燒友積極收藏的對象。可惜的是，他在Mercury時期所錄的柴可夫斯基三大芭蕾，雖然是錄音史上第一套完整的三大芭蕾錄音，但其中《天鵝湖》和《睡美人》兩套卻是單音錄音。因此成為只有少數專門收藏絕版唱片人才會注意的對象，無法成為發燒友的珍品。在立體聲以後，許多人都期待杜拉第能夠和Mercury的錄音團隊再錄一次三大芭蕾，這份《睡美人》，就是他在1981年重新指揮荷蘭阿姆斯特丹皇家音樂堂所作的錄音。


    杜拉第一生總共錄製過三次《胡桃鉗》組曲，其中有兩份是在立體聲時代完成的，最晚的一次是1975年和阿姆斯特丹皇家音樂堂合作。六年後，再次和該團合作此《睡美人》錄音。照理說，杜拉第應該會想在數位錄音時代補足柴可夫斯基的三大芭蕾，唱片公司應該也這麼渴望，畢竟身為史上第一位灌錄柴可夫斯基三大芭蕾舞劇全本的指揮家，其影響力是多麼巨大，唱片公司知道，樂迷也知道。但是，一直到1988年杜拉第過世，他終究還是沒能錄成《天鵝湖》。可能是杜拉第當時年歲已高，所以終究無法成行。也因此，這份《睡美人》就成了杜拉第晚年的錄音代表作之一。
